The Amadou
Amadou accessory to dry flies for fishingThis little accessory may be a little unfamiliar to some or familiar to others but let me explain what it is. It is used to take out moisture from a waterloggoed fly but particulary flies that are tied with feathers that come from the oil gland area of ducks and should not accept the floatants on the market. These oil gland type feathers are known as CDC feathers: cul-de-canard feathers. They are waterproofed by nature and they are the best feathers you can get for tying flies as they look incredibly lifelike when they are in the water.

The amadou is a natural material made of a tree fungus… it is extremely absorbent.
